The following chart¹ shows the annual probability of vehicle accident deaths by age group.  Safety interventions should obviously be targeted at the peaks, not the troughs.

35 – 65 year-old New Zealanders are at least risk, yet likely suffer the majority of speed enforcement fines.  The traffic safety enforcement programme is grossly misdirected.
