Drivers by Age Group
Fact LTSA & Police Myth
Young drivers (esp. male) and old drivers have by far the worst road fatality rates. Middle age drivers resist road safety messages and have high fatality rates!

The following chart1 shows the annual probability of vehicle accident deaths by age group.  Safety interventions should obviously be targeted at the peaks, not the troughs.

Deaths By Age Group

35 – 65 year-old New Zealanders are at least risk, yet likely suffer the majority of speed enforcement fines.  The traffic safety enforcement programme is grossly misdirected.
